Sultan to end Tiv-Fulani crises in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba

President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affaris (NSCIA) and the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has promised to personally champion peaceful resolution of Tiv/Fulani clashes in Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states.
The Sultan explained that once the new Tor Tiv is appointed, he will personally initiate steps that will bring an end to the crisis and urged the affected states to urgently re-open fresh discussion that could possibly help in bringing an end to the crisis. Special Assistant to Nasarawa State Governor, Hon Solomon Tabilo Pevkya revealed this in Obi Local Government Area of the state when he addressed the Tiv Development Association (TIDA) during a general meeting. The Sultan, he said, urged Tiv and Fulani to embrace dialogue towards peaceful resolution of the crisis.
He noted that  he was part of the 150 prominent Tiv sons and daughters under the leadership of Dr Poul Unongo that paid the Sultan courtesy visit during his 10th coronation anniversary recently in Sokoto.
T saying that both tribes had long standing history of mutual relationship.
Meanwhile, the TIDA in Nasarawa state have propose 120 resettlements areas in other to avoid further conflicts among the Tiv people and other nationalities in the state.
Presenting the final report to TIDA congress, president of the Association Engr Moses Utondu explained that the aim is to check the criminal tendencies among the youths and to ensure rapid development of the areas.
According to him “we are the most populated in Nasarawa state, but because of the scattered settlement has placed us in disadvantage position, we want to place ourselves in such that we can be utilized and recognized, there are tendencies of criminality among our youths which is very difficult to check but with this resettlement areas, it can be easily checked” said Engr Utondu
The president who also doubles as the special adviser to the governor on Public Works said that it is the desire of the Tiv people to live among with other ethnic nationalities in peace and assured that the resettlement areas have the blessing and endorsement of the governor of the state and all the Tiv stakeholders.
He said the Tiv people are strongly agitating for their representation at the Nasarawa state traditional council, adding that the governor is solidly behind the liberation of Tiv people in Nasarawa state.
The president appreciated the state governor, Tanko Al-Makura for carrying the Tiv people along in his administration by appointing one of them a commissioner, special adviser and a special assistant and called on the people to support the present administration in the state. - Sun
