Breaking: APC Wins Ondo Gubernatorial Elections

Chief Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Celebrating Victory at Owo
The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) of Nigeria has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu the winner of the November 26, 2016 Ondo State gubernatorial elections.    

Announcing the result, the returning officer Professor Ganiyu Ambali said Akeredulo scored 244, 842 votes to defeat his closest rivers Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 150, 380 and Mr Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) who scored 126, 889.


A breakdown of the votes in various local government areas is as follows:

Total number of registered voters : 1,647, 976
Total number of accredited voters : 584, 997

1. Alliance for Democracy =126, 889
2. All Progressives Congress  =244, 842
3. Peoples's Democratic Party =150,380
    APC won by  94,462.

Mr. Akeredolu, a lawyer by profession with the rank of senior advocate of Nigeria will take over from Governor Olusegun Mimiko whose two terms tenure as governor of Ondo State will expire in February 23, 2017.
APC victory is seen as a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari's administration
