The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that no Nigerian Bank is in distress.
In a statement issued in Tuesday in Abuja by the banks's acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okorafor said all the nations' financial institutions are sound and the safety of depositors' money is guaranteed.
“The CBN, as the industry regulator, has a duty to depositors, in particular and the economy, in general to ensure the soundness of all financial institutions.
“We, therefore, wish to assure all depositors of the safety of their deposits,” it stated.
The Nigeria's apex bank restated its position that the banking system in the country is resilience enough to withstand the nation's current economic challenges.
The statement dismissed the fake information that Heritage Bank was under financial distress and urged depositors to transact business with the bank without fear.
The CBN statement attributed the deliberate mis-information to “the handiwork of economic saboteurs’’.
