Edo State Has New Governor

Edo State will start this week with a new governor on the seat of power in Benin City the state capital. Godwin Obaseki, was sworn in as the new Governor last Saturday along with his deputy, Philip Shaibu.
The event took place at a colourful ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City with national leaders, including Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) in attendance.
Some APC Governors in attendance includes  Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State,  Hamid Yari of Zamfara, Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, and Simon Lalong of Plateau State.
Other APC leaders present at the occasion includes, the Deputy Chairman of APC, Chief Segun Oni, former Interim Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, Wife of Kogi State governor, Aisha Yahaya Bello who represented the First Lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari and former governor of Ogun State Segun Osoba.
The business community was not left out as  Aliko Dangote, Wale Tinubu, Tony Elumelu, Hakeem Belo-Osagie and  Femi Otedola also withnessed the occasion.
Governor Obaseki in his inaugural speech, promised to build on the foundation laid by his successor Adams Oshiomhole to move the state forward.
He listed the welfare of the people, infrastructural development, agro-allied and industrial growth, job creation, and completion of all ongoing projects in parts of the state, as his topmost priority.

Governor Godwin Obaseki had earlier won the Edo State Gubernatorial elections conducted on September 28, 2016 under the platform of Nigeria’s ruling party the All Progressives Congress (APC).
