Abuja - The federal, state and local governments have shared a total of N652 billion in July, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris said on Tuesday.
He said this in Abuja, after chairing the monthly meeting of Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC).
He added that the figure comprised of both mineral and non-mineral revenue.
He said that the gross statutory revenue of N570.5 billion received for the month of June was more than the N317.5 billion in the previous month by N253 billion.
Idris said the gross revenue available from Value Added Tax (VAT) was N81.6 billion as against N79.9 billion distributed in May, indicating an increase of N1.6 billion.
He also said the Excess Crude Account (ECA) stood at 2.303 billion dollars while the Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) was 68 million dollars.
He said non-mineral revenue increased by N181.2 billion from N157.5 billion in May to N338.8 billion in June.
Giving the breakdown on what was distributed to the three tiers of government, he said the Federal Government got N286.5 billion, States N178.6 billion and Local Governments got N134.9 billion.
He also said N29.8 billion was shared to oil producing states as their 13 per cent derivation for the month, while cost of collection and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) refund stood at N22.1 billion.
According to him, there was a decrease in the average price of crude oil from 55.18 dollars per barrel to 50.27 dollars per barrel.
He also said a significant decrease in export volume by 3.20 million barrels resulted in decreased revenue from export sales for the federation by 183.68 million dollars.
Idris said Lagos state has been identified as an oil producing state and that the relevant agencies to quantify the amount of crude produced by the state and what was accruable to the state would get to it.
The Chairman, Commissioners of Finance Forum, Mr Mahmood Yunuusa of Adamawa State, said states were working hard to ensure that they diversify their inflows.
“We are determined to see that in the next one year we reduce our dependence on what comes from the centre and whatever comes from the centre will be dedicated to projects.’’ (NAN)

President Buhari hosts the visiting APC leaders to lunch on Sunday in London

President Muhammadu Buhari  in London on Sunday received an APC delegation led by the party's national chairman John Oyegun, comprising of some ministers and governors who joined the President  for lunch.

Buhari has been away from Nigeria for over two months on his latest medical vacation.

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), quoted Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State as disclosing during a telephone conversation following the meeting the President was very cheerful and has not lost any bit of his sense of humour.

According to Adesina in the statement, “The governor said the party delegation spent more than an hour with President Buhari over lunch, and it was very clear from the discussions that he followed developments at home very closely.

“He said the President was delighted to receive the delegation and asked each governor about affairs in his state. He also asked the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, about the state of the railways.

“When asked to react to all the negative things being said about him, the President just laughed, describing such negative reports as lies. Governor Okorocha said President Buhari was completely unperturbed by the cocktail of lies. He, instead, sent his best wishes to Nigerians.

“According to the governor, Nigerians don’t have to worry at all, adding that President Buhari will be back as soon as the doctors give him the green light.”

Adesina further quoted Governor Okorocha as saying: “By our visit to London today, the merchants of lies have been put out of business and Nigerians will not buy the garbage they have been selling. All those who look up to fake news can find better use for their time.”

The statement identified governors Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa; Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna; Yahaya Bello of Kogi; and APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, as others in the delegation.

The Minister of Labour/Employment, Sen Chris Ngige today Sunday in a well-attended stakeholders meeting hosted in his Alor country home in Idemili South council of Anambra state and attended by all State/LG officers, top members/stakeholders of APC in Anambra state as well as the governorship aspirants for the Nov 18, 2017 election in the state urged them to know and see Chief George Nnadubem Moghalu as the best qualified member amongst all the 14 aspirants.

Going down memory lane of history of APC in the state, and indeed the South East zone, Sen Ngige reminded them that Moghalu’s membership, loyalty and consistency has remained unrivalled.

That even when others never believed in or had positive hopes in the party, Moghalu pioneered and has remained in the party through its entire metamorphosis till date.

Therefore, if there’s any other way to appreciate him for his doggedness, it would be to rally round and deliver him at this period of his governorship aspiration.

While appreciating all other aspirants one after another for their interest, zeal and love for APC, the Minister assured all that their own golden moment in history like Moghalu’s would come, one way or another.

Though Moghalu was absent at the meeting which Ngige personally acknowledged that he took permission earlier as a result of previous engagement/appointment at the Presidency, it was his moment of glory.

Before the meeting, many had erroneously believed Ngige was calling out the members to announce his joining the gubernatorial contest.

Buhari to return soon - Aisha Buhari

Mrs. Aisha Buhari in London July 5
There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari will soon return to Nigeria and resume work. The President's wife Aisha Buhari, gave this indication in her Facebook post in which she also gave an insight into the power play at the Nigerian seat of power in the wake of a sickness that has kept her husband out of the country for over two months.
President Muhammadu Buhari had flown to London 63 days ago to resume medical treatment after an earlier round early this year.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Mrs. Buhari took a cue and alluded to some elements around her ailing husband as “the hyenas” and “the jackals,” hoping that they would soon be sent out of “his Kingdom”.
Mrs. Buhari who is presently in the United Kingdom to see her ailing husband, made the post while responding to a proverbial Facebook post by the senator representing Kaduna Central District, Shehu Sani.
Mr. Sani’s post read:
“Prayer for the absent Lion King has waned; until he’s back then they will fall over each other to be on the front row of the palace temple. Now the hyenas and the jackals are scheming and talking to each other in whispered; still doubting whether the Lion King will be back or not…
“It is the wish of the Hyenas and the Jackals that the Lion King never wakes up or come back so that they can be kings. It is the prayers of the weak animals that the Lion King comes back to save the kingdom from the Hyenas, the wolves and other predators”
Responding to Mr. Sani’s comment also proverbially, Mrs. Buhari said:
“God has answered the prayers of the weaker Animals. The Hyenas and the jackals will soon be sent out of the kingdom. We strongly believe in the prayers and support of the weaker animals”.
Mrs. Aisha’s comment attracted some comments from her followers on Facebook, wishing her husband quick recovery.
Mrs. Buhari had returned to the UK last week after an earlier trip last month after which Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, claimed she was not allowed to see the president by an alleged cabal around him.
Upon her return to Nigeria back then, the President’s wife had said he was recovering well and that he expressed appreciation to Nigerians praying for.
