Nigerian Air Force Repels Boko Haaram Attack On Ground Forces


The Nigeria Air Force has repelled a Boko Haram attack on ground troops at Kangarwa, Borno State. Spokesman for Nigeria Air Force Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa in a statement to the press yesterday reported that three fighter jets and a reconnaissance aircraft were immediately deployed following the report of the attack.

The report said "while the fighter aircraft were scrambled to repel the attack, the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft was deployed to give guidance to ground troops on the position equipment and strength of the Boko Haram militants."
According to the report the the two hour operation started at about 1700 hours (5pm) and ended at about 1915 hours (7:15pm) before the attack was successfully repelled.

The report also informed that before the insurgents' attack the Air Force had conducted day and night operations at Kashimeri, Tumbu Gini, Chukugudu and other places still regarded as the insurgents' strongholds from they lauch attacks on Bama and the neighbouring settlements. 

"The air interdiction missions were aimed at decimating the operational capability of the insurgents," the report said.
